Everton Duo Reach Euro 2020 Final In Historic England Win

Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are off to the Euro 2020 final as England triumphed 2-1 in extra-time against Denmark.

England will play Italy at Wembley on Sunday in their first-ever final in the European Championships.

Pickford's clean sheet streak came to an end as Mikkel Damsgaard gave the Danes the lead in the first half on Wednesday night.

However, the Englishmen were quick to respond and levelled through a Simon Kjær own goal and in extra-time, Harry Kane proved the national hero as he slotted home the winner after Raheem Sterling had been brought down in the area.

There was no space in the matchday squad for Dominic Calvert-Lewin but the Blues striker will be bidding to make his mark on Sunday against Italy.

Chances were few and far between for Denmark but when called upon, Everton number one Pickford showed his class and kept the Three Lions in the game.

England went behind after 30 minutes.

Denmark won a free-kick 20 yards out as Damsgaard stepped up and fired the ball into the top left corner, Pickford managing to get his fingertips on the strike.

However, Gareth Southgate's side were quick to react and levelled the game nine minutes later.

Kane slipped in Bukayo Saka along the right who played a low cross into the area. Sterling was there to tap it home but instead it deflected off Denmark captain Kjær who put it into his own net.

Nothing could separate the teams in the second half as both nations entered an additional 30 minutes at Wembley.

On the stroke of half-time in extra time, the vocal home fans at Wembley erupted.

Sterling was brought down inside the box with the referee pointing to the spot.

Up stepped Kane whose penalty was saved by Kasper Schmeichel at the bottom right corner but the England captain latched on to the rebound to give England the lead.

England return to Wembley for a final time this summer on Sunday for a historic final against the Italians (8pm BST).
