Everton Giant Lyons' Touching Reaction To Goodison Return

Everton legend Mike Lyons made an emotional return to Goodison Park for the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night.

The former Club captain, who played 473 times for his beloved Blues, scoring 59 goals, has recently been diagnosed with early-stage dementia.

Lyons now lives in Australia and, after last month being surprised by Bill Kenwright with a special evening to celebrate his playing career, the Everton Chairman organised a trip to bring him back to Merseyside.

Lyons watched on from the stands as Michael Keane's stunning late strike earned the Blues a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, as well as being afforded a sensational welcome back when presented to a full house under the floodlights ahead of kick-off.

In a video message to Lyons for last month's event, Everton Chairman Kenwright said: “As I look through the annals of Everton history, at the top of the tree are those lads who were ‘blue through and through’ and at the top of that particular tree there has always been Mike Lyons – the true epitome of what it was to be an Everton player.”
