MacIver On 'Emotional' Everton Win

Everton Women goalkeeper Sandy MacIver expressed Wednesday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League victory almost brought tears to her eyes as the Blues fought brilliantly to beat Aston Villa 1-0.

It was the second game inside four days for Chris Roberts’ side, after winning 2-0 against Charlton in the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.

After a disappointing defeat to Aston Villa prior to the international break, the win in London seemed to create a buzz within the Everton camp that grew heading into the midweek clash.

Aurora Galli’s late strike proved the difference for the visitors, but it was the defensive resilience of MacIver and her backline that kept Villa at bay.

The England international acknowledged her teammates' efforts to see out the result and hopes the momentum can continue to build heading into a busy month for the Toffees.

“Two clean sheets on the bounce, I feel we really needed that,” she told evertontv.

“We have got a big March coming up so hopefully that’s going to kick us on.

“We fully deserved that win on Wednesday, we have deserved three points for a long time.

“I think everyone from the defenders to the centre forwards dug deep.

“I almost shed a tear at the end [of the match]! I’ve never been so happy!

“When we look at the league table, we’re not where we want to be.

“The important thing for us now is to kick on and climb the table.

“Hopefully we can have the fans backing us again against Leicester City and pick up another three points and a clean sheet.”

Everton return to home soil for their next outing as Leicester City make the journey to Walton Hall Park on Saturday 12 March (5.30pm GMT).
