Rondon On His 'Perfect' Goodison Night

Striker netted double in FA Cup win over Boreham Wood.

Salomon Rondon reflected on a “special night” after scoring his first Goodison Park goals in the Blues’ 2-0 FA Cup success over Boreham Wood on Thursday night.

The striker netted a second-half brace to seal Everton’s place in the quarter-finals of the competition, where the Toffees will take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the weekend of 19/20 March.

Everton dominated possession and chances but found a resilient Boreham Wood side a tough nut to crack until Rondon’s clinical finish shortly before the hour mark.

The 32-year-old then headed home from Andros Townsend’s cross six minutes from time to secure victory for the Blues.

The match represented Rondon’s first start under manager Frank Lampard and the Venezuelan set out his determination to seize every opportunity to impress the new boss.

“It was a perfect night,” he told evertontv.

“I was ready for this night as I had gone a long time without scoring.

"It was a hard game because they played so deep and closed the lines. We had to move the ball really quickly. I am really happy to help the team pass into the next round.

“I try to score every time I can play. It is special to score at Goodison Park.

“The manager has just told me to keep training and doing my best every training session.

“When you get a chance, you have to take it. I did that and I’m really happy.

“I just have to try my best to help the team and score goals. I have to keep going.”
