Thursday's Daily Mail claims Everton are poised to offer forward Anthony Gordon a "significantly improved new contract".

It has been said this week that Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on Gordon, the Academy graduate who made 40 appearances for his club in 2021/22.

Frank Lampard is a self-professed fan of the player and the Mail insists Everton's manager is intent on retaining 21-year-old Gordon, whose current deal runs until summer 2025.

Everton, adds the report, "will not begin dialogue over the sale of one of their most valued squad members".

The Mail additionally pours cold water on rumours linking Everton with an imminent move for Jesse Lingard.

England international Lingard is a free agent following the expiry of his Manchester United contract but only an exit for Gordon would trigger an Everton move for the 29-year-old forward.

Everton have "cooled their interest" in Harry Winks, according to The Daily Express. Tottenham are supposedly ready to sanction the departure of England midfielder Winks and Everton have been repeatedly mooted as a potential new home for the 26-year-old.

Lampard, however, "is pursuing alternative targets", says the paper.

Another midfielder whose name is consistently linked with Goodison is Morgan Gibbs-White of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A piece in 90min nevertheless declares Crystal Palace have emerged as "frontrunners" for the signature of England Under-21 player Gibbs-White.

A number of outlets, including the Belfast Telegraph, report on Everton confirming the capture of 16-year-old Northern Irish midfielder Jack Patterson from Crusaders.

Back in the Express, it is intimated Championship club Middlesbrough would like to take Everton centre-half Jarrad Branthwaite on loan for 2022/23, or for the opening half of the campaign, at least.
