Coleman Reveals What's Needed For Everton's Run-In

Seamus Coleman rued a missed chance for another crucial Everton victory but insisted his side must take the positives from their goalless draw at Watford on Wednesday night.

The Blues dominated the encounter at Vicarage Road but, despite piling on the pressure in the second half and going closest through Demarai Gray just past the hour mark, the visitors could not find a breakthrough.

The result leaves Everton two points clear of 18th-placed Leeds United - with a game in hand and vastly-superior goal difference - and extended their unbeaten run to three matches, having taken seven points from a possible nine on offer.

Frank Lampard's side now look ahead to two home clashes at Goodison Park, starting with the visit of Brentford on Sunday.

"I felt like the game was there for the taking but, at the same time, when we were going for it they had a few chances on the break," said skipper Coleman.

"We came down here looking for three points but you have to respect this league and you can’t just turn up and get three points.

"We’ve got seven points from the last nine. We’re still fighting, there’s still a lot to do and if you can’t win it, make sure you don’t lose it and we kept a clean sheet.

"We know the stage we’re at, we know what’s needed. It’s about trying to keep cool heads and know the situation. We’ve been backed fully by our supporters who have done all they can to help us, travelling down here again tonight.

"We’ve just got to keep pushing. We’ve got two home games now and we’ve just got to keep going to the very end."

LAMPARD'S MIXED EMOTIONS TO WATFORD DRAW

Boss feels it's a point closer to safety - but Everton could have had more.

Coleman once again saluted Everton's outstanding travelling support, with vocal Blues taking over Vicarage Road with more renditions of Spirit of the Blues.

That followed the send-off given by fans as the First Team set off from Finch Farm for Hertfordshire on Tuesday, with Coleman looking forward to having them back at the Grand Old Lady this weekend.

"The fans have realised the situation we’re in," added the right-back. "Nobody wanted to believe that but when realism set in they’ve really got behind their team and their football club and it’s been an amazing experience to witness but we have to finish the job and keep working hard.

"We’re happy to be going back to our home support. We’ve had a good run of form at Goodison Park since the manager came in but you’ve got to earn the three points and we have to make sure we’re prepared."
