2020/21 Season Draws To A Close

The 2020/21 season has now drawn to a close and attention at Everton will immediately turn to ensuring the best possible preparations for the return of competitive action in August.

Many players from across the Club's teams will now join up with their international sides, including a number of Men's First-Team players who will be taking part in the forthcoming European Championship.

Here we give a quick recap of how Everton's Women, Under-23s and Under-18s fared in 2020/21...

Everton Women

Everton's progress under manager Willie Kirk continued as they followed up their appearance in the 2020 Women's FA Cup final by recording a fifth-place finish in the Women's Super League.

Highlights of the season included successive 4-0 wins over Bristol City, a 6-0 demolition of Aston Villa and 5-0 triumph against Brighton and Hove Albion.

A 1-0 Merseyside derby victory was also secured when the Blues and Reds met in the Continental Cup in November, while a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final at Goodison Park will live long in the memory.

Izzy Christiansen's performances in Everton's midfield saw her named Women's Player of the Season.

WATCH: EVERTON WOMEN HIT VILLA FOR SIX

Doubles for Raso and Emslie as Blues make it three wins from three in the WSL.

Everton Under-23s

Like Everton Women, the Club's Under-23s recorded a fifth-place finish in 2020/21, missing out on a top-three spot in Premier League 2 by just two points.

Perhaps most encouraging for manager David Unsworth, though, will be the way his side finished the campaign - racking up 5-0 and 4-0 wins in a double-header with Southampton and tasting defeat just once in their final six outings.

Ryan Astley was crowned Player of the Season, with Unsworth describing the defender as the “most consistent, outstanding player… a consummate professional and pleasure to work with”.

Nathan Broadhead also impressed as he hit 11 goals in 18 league appearances, while the campaign saw a number of younger players step up from the Under-18s and establish themselves at Under-23 level.

EVERTON UNDER-23S IN THE GOALS AT SAINTS

Nap hand for Unsworth's team on south coast.

Everton Under-18s

Completing the hat-trick of teams to finish fifth in their league standings, the best moments of Everton Under-18s' season arguably came in the FA Youth Cup.

The young Blues went all the way to the quarter-finals of the competition - with no shortage of drama along the way.

Paul Tait's side had to come from two-goals down to defeat Wigan Athletic 4-2 in extra-time in the third round, before knocking out holders Manchester City with a brilliant 98th-minute strike from substitute Luke Butterfield in round four.

A Sean McAllister double - and another late goal - helped the young Blues see off Chelsea to book a place in the last eight, but the run was unfortunately halted with a 2-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion.
