Michael Keane admits Everton’s defeat to Burnley on Saturday was a “big opportunity missed" but believes the Blues can regroup to summon a strong finish to the season and secure a place in Europe. 

Everton remain sixth in a congested Premier League table – five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and with a game in hand on the west London side.

Speaking post-match, a disappointed Keane said: "We got a win in our last home game after a bad run at Goodison so we wanted to build on that but it didn't go our way today. 

“In the first half especially, we weren't good enough, especially for a 20-25 minute period and we got punished for it. 

"I think they won a lot more second balls than us, which allowed them to get up the pitch and they seemed a yard sharper. I've got no explanation for that - I don't think you can say anything about our work ethic or anything like that - but they seemed to pick up those second balls and that's disappointing because it had us under pressure and we were made to pay for that. 

“We'll be disappointed tonight and for the next few days. But we've got 10 big games left and we've got every opportunity to get into Europe so we've just got to get our attitude right, train well and be ready for those matches.”
