Moe Wold Eager To Show 'Winning Mentality' At Everton

Norway international Ingrid Moe Wold is eager to bring quality, leadership and a winning mentality to Everton and help the Club compete at the top end of English football.

An energetic full-back who combines polished defending with enterprising attacking play, Moe Wold joined the Blues in July following a short-term spell in Spain with Madrid CFF.

The 30-year-old was previously a central figure in dominant Norwegian side LSK Women, where she won seven league championships.

Moe Wold’s consistently impressive performances over the past decade have seen her establish herself in the Norway national team and she was part of the side that reached the quarter-finals of the 2019 Women’s World Cup.

Moe Wold revealed her excitement about her new challenge at Everton – and hopes her blend of attributes can make a positive impact on and off the pitch.

“I want to help Everton improve and achieve new goals,” she told evertonfc.com.

“We have a squad full of players of very high quality.

“I think we can be competitive and aim high in the table this year.

“Many players and coaches have said they think I am a leader.

“I captained my club team in Norway and we had a really great culture in that team.

“We won a lot for many years in a row. I have some experience from that, so I hope I can bring that into the team.

“I like to communicate, contest duels, and be aggressive but also, outside the pitch, take care of other people. I think that is important when building a good team with good team spirit, with a winning mentality.

“I always work hard. I have always been a good runner, someone who likes getting up and down the field.

“I think I have improved a lot with calmness on the pitch, because I have a lot of experience now.

“I’ve also been very focused on my passing – I want to make good passes and help the team control games.”

EVERTON WOMEN RETURN TO TRAINING IN hummel GEAR

Revamped squad dons hummel kit at USM Finch Farm.

During her time with LSK Women, Moe Wold played a remarkable 195 consecutive matches as her team swept all before them in Norway.

The defender believes a constant diet of sport as a youngster laid the foundations for her physical robustness – and explained the routine which has helped her sustain a high level of fitness.

“I played all the matches for my Norwegian club from 2010 until 2018,” she said.

“Without thinking about it too much, I think I have always been a good professional – eating well, training well, sleeping enough. I also like doing strength exercises.

“I played handball when I was younger and was doing a lot of other activities.

“That, combined with being lucky and not getting injured when I was young, helped me, too.

“I think it’s important when you can train and play for many years constantly, you can get a really good fitness base.”

Moe Wold has joined an Everton team that finished sixth in the Women’s Super League last season.

Manager Willie Kirk has bolstered his talented squad with five new signings so far this summer.

As well as Moe Wold, the Blues have signed Danish international duo Nicoline Sorensen and Rikke Sevecke, England Under-21 defender Poppy Pattinson and France striker Valerie Gauvin.

Moe Wold revealed moving to the Women’s Super League has been a long-held ambition – and is confident she is part of a squad primed for success.

“I am sure, having been here for four weeks, that Everton is the right club for me,” she added.

“My goal has always been to play in England, because I think the league is really competitive and is going to get better and better.

“Even though I have a lot of experience already, I want and think I can improve as a player.

“We have a team with a really good attitude which wants to win. It’s a big focus in the training sessions every day, so I really like that.

“Hopefully, I can use my experience to help finish higher in the table than last year.”

Moe Wold says she has quickly settled into life on Merseyside, as she paid tribute to the Club’s family environment.

“It has been four great weeks here so far,” she added.

“Everyone at Everton has been really welcoming and it is a really nice club, with nice staff and teammates.

“I already knew Tinni [Korpela, Everton goalkeeper] before I came here, as we played together at LSK, so that has been helpful.

“I have got my own place in Liverpool. I have taken some walks around and gone to the city centre.

“Also, I have gone to meet the two Danish girls [Sorensen and Sevecke], who live more down towards the docks.

“We get along well. I speak Norwegian and they speak Danish and we can understand each other.

“We have walked up to Goodison Park and have been exploring the city together!

“It has been great.”
