'I Couldn't Have Wished For More' - Sorensen Savouring Life At Everton

Explosive Everton attacker Nicoline Sorensen says “she couldn’t have wished for more” from her first month at the Club, as she revealed her optimism about the potential of Willie Kirk’s new-look squad.

The Danish international joined the Blues from Brondby in July, one of five acquisitions made by Everton so far this summer.

The Toffees have also brought in Sorensen’s fellow Dane Rikke Sevecke, Norway’s Ingrid Moe Wold, England Under-21 defender Poppy Pattinson and France World Cup star Valerie Gauvin.

Sorensen was the Danish league’s top goalscorer last season and was voted the country’s player of the year.

She revealed her desire to bring her blend of attacking attributes to the Women’s Super League in 2020/21 – and detailed how the environment at Everton provides an ideal platform to showcase her talents.

“It has been amazing here so far, I couldn’t wish for more,” she told evertonfc.com.

“The players and the staff have been so sweet and welcoming, so I’m just really, really happy.

“It felt like home since the first session.

EVERTON WOMEN RETURN TO TRAINING IN hummel GEAR

Revamped squad dons hummel kit at USM Finch Farm.

“Training has been very competitive. I think the quality of each player is really high, which means the standard in training is fantastic.

“I see myself as a winger who is quite fast and is best at one-v-ones, making a lot of assists and also getting in positions to score. I think one of my strengths also is my shooting and my finishing.

“I can play left and right, and sometimes as an offensive midfielder as well.”

Sorensen only turned 23 on Saturday but has already won four domestic league championships – two with Brondby and one apiece for Swedish outfits FC Rosengard and Linkopings FC.

The forward – who represented Denmark at the 2017 European Championships – believes her history of performing in high-stakes contests can prove valuable as Everton seek to establish themselves as a WSL force.

“I think it is very important to have been in those really big games, where everything matters and it is about winning a trophy,” she said.

“It is really good for me to come in with that experience, and hopefully I can contribute to help the team.

“I spoke to Willie [before coming to Everton] and we had a really good dialogue.

“We were talking about the Club, the ambitions and how he wanted to build his team.

“That was really, really important for me – the way he saw me fitting into his team. It felt right to come here.”

Sorensen also explained how her adjustment to life at Everton has been aided by being joined at the Club by fellow Denmark star Sevecke.

And she is convinced her compatriot boasts the technical and mental qualities to thrive in English football.

“It has been really nice to have Rikke here, we live about five minutes away from each other,” Sorensen said.

“I have played with her in the youth national teams up to the senior team, and in Brondby, too.

“We have known each other since we were 14.

“She is a leader. She is super-strong defensively, really good on the ball, passing and seeing options.

“And defensively she is just… hard! She wins almost every dual.”

Sorensen has moved to the UK with her boyfriend and the pair live in an apartment in the centre of Liverpool.

She revealed her “amazing” first impressions of Everton have been matched by her feelings about her new surroundings.

“I just love the city – it reminds me a little of Copenhagen, where we come from,” she added.

“We have been able to go out and have a look around Liverpool One. We went for some walks by the water.

“There are a lot of nice spots to go and drink coffee, too.

“We have a lovely apartment with a view over the water and the city.

“It’s absolutely amazing to be here.”
