Jordan Pickford says Everton “must keep believing in ourselves” and summon a strong finish to the 2019/20 season after Thursday night’s 1-1 draw with Southampton.
Both goals came in the first half at Goodison Park, with Danny Ings’ opener cancelled out by a superb strike from Richarlison.
The Brazilian expertly controlled a fabulous pass from Lucas Digne and rifled a shot past Saints keeper Alex McCarthy. The goal was his 28th for Everton in his 70th start for the Club.
Everton played with greater penetration and urgency in the second half but could not find a winner.
The result means Carlo Ancelotti’s side remain 11th in the table with four games remaining.
Next up for Everton is a trip to sixth-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday (12pm) – a victory would move Everton to within four points of the Midlands side.
Pickford admitted the Blues will need to improve on their performance against Southampton.
“I don’t think we were quite at the races in the first half, to be honest, as a group, as a unit and where we want to be as a club,” Pickford said.
“But we never give up and we try to win.
“It was a great goal for us, playing out from the back with about five passes and then a good finish from Richy.

“We were much better in the second half.
“You can see we’re an Everton team and will always give 100 per cent.
“We need to keep believing in ourselves that we can be winning these games.”
Pickford – who was making his 110th consecutive Premier League start for Everton – made a spectacular save from Ings as Southampton applied pressure in the first half.
The Saints striker made a strong connection with a header from James Ward-Prowse’s corner delivery but the England No. 1 athletically tipped his effort onto the crossbar.
“Sometimes they go in, but I was on my game and made the save,” Pickford said.
“He got across at the front with a very good header and I just reacted well and tipped it onto the bar.
“We rode our luck a bit in the first half but we stuck at it and were still in the game. We kept battling.”
