As well as building up to Wednesday night’s 234th Merseyside derby, today’s local and national newspapers report on Richarlison signing a new five-year contract with Everton.

The Brazil international – who has hit 20 goals for the Toffees since moving from Watford to Goodison Park in summer 2018 - put pen to paper on an extended deal with the Blues on Tuesday.

Quotes from Richarlison are included in a range of publications, with the 22-year-old declaring: “I intend to be here a long time.

“This was the Club which gave me the opportunity to show my football. It was here I managed to get a place in the Brazil national team and it was here I have scored lots of goals in the Premier League.

“The Club trusts me and I trust them.”

Marco Silva features in the Liverpool Echo, Daily Mirror and the Guardian, with the Portuguese insisting his team boasts the quality and character to rise to the occasion in tonight’s game at Anfield.

“I like the special games and my players and our fans have to like the special games too,” he said.

“We have to go there and embrace the challenge, to enjoy it.”

Everton forward Alex Iwobi also set out the squad's hunger ahead of the derby showdown.

The Echo carries quotes from the former Arsenal man, who said: “We will be mentally strong and prepared for the match.

“You want to come out on top in a derby. There cannot be any greater motivation.”

And former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has revealed the Merseyside derby is "the greatest game I've ever played in".

Speaking to Talksport, the American added: "It is the one everyone looks forward to, even people who don’t reside on Merseyside. It’s special.

"When you talk about the Merseyside derby, it goes back forever and ever in the top-flight. If you’re talking about the best derby, it’s Merseyside."
