Dyche's Call To Repay 'Tremendous' Support

Sean Dyche believes Everton’s upcoming clash against Burnley could provide an opportunity for the Blues to build on their promising second-half showing at Newcastle United – as his side look to repay the Evertonian fans for their "tremendous" efforts.

The Toffees welcome the Clarets to Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon for a 3pm (BST) kick-off, with Everton looking to pick up from where they left off on Tuesday evening.

The Blues delivered a strong second 45 minutes at St. James’ Park, fighting back to earn a 1-1 draw on the road.

Ahead of the weekend's encounter, Dyche assured his team can take confidence from that performance, as they aim to find consistency in the approach they displayed last time out.

“I said afterwards in the media, that we took a knock down at Bournemouth, with scruffy, awkward goal at the end of the game,” he explained in his pre-match press conference.

“And to respond to that, with certainly a very strong second half – I thought first half, Newcastle were the better side – but we came back into it. We certainly deserved the penalty we got and created another couple of really good chances.

“The second half – it had that feel. It’s hard to explain. The feel of years of being in football. I’ve been in it all my life. You can sense and feel when it’s right, and all the players were the same.

“Afterwards, some of the key players, some of the older players – they know on the pitch. They were suggesting afterwards: ‘That’s when we’re right. That feeling.’

“Recreating and trying to find a consistency in that feeling, of course, that’s the next step. You can’t just rely on a half of football. You have to take it forwards, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Dyche’s former club, where he spent nearly a decade as manager, have picked up form ahead of their trip to Goodison on Saturday.

The Clarets are unbeaten in their past four games, picking up three draws (against Wolves, Chelsea, and West Ham) and a single victory (over Brentford), however they have already fallen twice to the Toffees this season, losing 3-0 in the League Cup and 2-0 in the Premier League.

Dyche sees the weekend as a chance to reward the Everton support, after they travelled to opposite ends of the country in impressive numbers to pack out away allocations at both Bournemouth and Newcastle in the Blues' previous two games.

“There’s an energy about playing at home,” he added. “There certainly should be, and I think there is with the team; there is with the fans. I’m absolutely full of admiration for the fans here because they support, and they travel in numbers all over the place, and they go to the home games in numbers.

“It’s our job and our responsibility to give them what they want, and that’s winning football matches.

“The noise from the fans is tremendous at times. I think we’ve had too many (home games) get away from us this season. Early season, I thought we were performing as well as I’ve seen in my time here, but we couldn’t win a game because we weren’t taking our chances.

“We have to keep the performance levels high, particularly at home, and the fans help with that.”
