Pickford Helps England Reach Euro 2024

Jordan Pickford helped England clinch qualification for Euro 2024 in Germany next summer, as the Three Lions came from behind to defeat Italy 3-1 at Wembley.

Everton's goalkeeper earned his 56th senior cap for England, who only needed a point to secure their place at next summer's tournament.

Gianluca Scamacca struck after quarter of an hour to give the visitors the lead, but Gareth Southgate's side ensured parity at the half-time interval with a Harry Kane penalty.

After winning that spot-kick, Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham was in the thick of it again for England's second of the evening, providing a blistering run and pass that set up Marcus Rashford to score.

Kane added his second of the evening with 13 minutes remaining to seal the result and qualification to next year's tournament.

Elsewhere in the same group, Vitalii Mykolenko played a pivotal role as Ukraine leapfrogged Italy into second place - an automatic qualification spot - with a 3-1 away win over Malta.

Blues left-back Mykolenko played the full 90 minutes, providing an assist for Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk late on to seal a valuable victory after going down to an early goal.

Ukraine have accumulated 13 points from their seven games, while Italy - who have played one game less - sit on 10 points. The two nations set to play each other in the final round of fixtures.

There was good news for another of Everton's internationals as Youssef Chermiti was on the scoresheet for Portugal Under-20s in an impressive 2-1 away victory over England Under-20s at the home of MK Dons.

The summer signing from Sporting CP wasted no time on his first appearance at Under-20 level, opening the scoring with a well-taken strike on 10 minutes.

He came close to scoring again shortly before half-time, only to be denied by a superb save from England goalkeeper James Beadle.

England Under-20s - managed by former Everton Assistant Manager Joe Edwards - equalised just before the interval, but Portugal struck a 94th-minute winner in front of 1,756 fans to seal three points in the Elite League encounter.

Elsewhere, Nathan Patterson played 89 minutes at right-back for Scotland, who suffered a 4-1 defeat in France in a friendly, having already secured their place at Euro 2024 earlier this week.
