Everton are close to signing defender Conor Coady on a season-long loan, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The local newspaper writes the Club have been working on signing the Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back throughout the summer, but interest has intensified over the past week.

Wolverhampton-based outlet The Express & Star supports these reports and adds that the Blues could announce the signing of Coady today (Monday).

The player is believed to be keen on regular first-team football and is expected to play a key role in Frank Lampard's defence.

In other news, the Daily Mail reports that Everton are "ready to battle" in the race to sign Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic.

The Austria international has 24 goals in 57 games for the Bundesliga side and has supposedly attracted interest from Everton, Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old is believed to be available for a fee in the region of £15million this summer, with the tabloid adding that the Toffees are hopeful of landing Chelsea's Armando Broja on loan.

Finally, defender James Tarkowski says he was blown away by the welcome from Evertonians before Saturday's 2022/23 Premier League opener.

Quoted in the Echo, Tarkowski said: "It was a special experience.

"I put my phone down and just made sure I took it all in. To see the amount of people out there cheering us on was just special.

"Fair play to the fans because they are really right behind us. Hopefully it will stay like that."
