What The Papers Say – 11 July

Mundo Deportivo in Spain reckons Everton could pounce for Barcelona forward Memphis Depay, if the Catalans secure the signature of Brazilian winger Raphinha from Leeds United.

Everton "enquired" over Dutchman Depay's likely availability back in April, says the Spanish daily, and could be ready to firm up their interest, with Barcelona apparently open to a sale.

Depay, 28, had 18 months in the Premier League with Manchester United before transferring to Lyon in January 2017. The Holland international, who has 42 goals in 80 appearances for his country, scored 12 times in 28 La Liga appearances – 20 starts – last term.

The Daily Mail suggests Everton and West Ham United are "leading the charge" for in-demand Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

It is said Chelsea are "weighing up plans" for the Albania international player, with three options on the table: a permanent exit for Broja, a loan move in the image of the season-long spell the 20-year-old spent at Southampton last term, or a role in the immediate plans of Stamford Bridge manger Thomas Tuchel.

The Liverpool Echo intimates Frank Lampard is eager to swiftly secure a replacement for Richarlison, the Brazilian forward who left Everton for Tottenham Hotspur this month, but the paper resists speculating over the identity of a new attacking capture.

Rumours persist over a potential Everton move for Harry Winks, with the Daily Star claiming the Tottenham player is "very keen" on a Goodison Park switch.

Midfielder Winks, 26, "likes the project" at Everton, according to the paper, and would gladly have linked up with manager Lampard in the winter transfer window.

Football Insider, meanwhile, downplays Everton links with Emmanuel Dennis from Watford.

Numerous publications mooted Everton as a conceivable destination for the Nigerian attacker, who reportedly has a price tag of £20m and has stayed at home to arrange a move while Watford begin pre-season preparations in Austria.

Newcastle United and West Ham are apparently in the running for the former Club Brugge player but, insists Football Insider, "Everton are not prioritising the capture of Dennis".

A number of outlets agree Everton want to take Amadou Onana from Lille in France.

Onana, 20, made his senior Belgium debut last month following a stellar first season with Lille after a move from German club Hamburg last summer.

Everton face competition for Onana in the shape of Premier League rivals West Ham and Leicester City, according to the majority of reports.

Finally, the BBC says Everton and Chelsea, along with a "host of clubs from around Europe" have spoken to Burnley over the possibility of triggering a £17.5m transfer clause for Maxwel Cornet.

Ivorian wide player Cornet, 25, scored nine goals from 21 starts in his first Premier League campaign last term after six-and-a-half years with Ligue 1 Lyon.
