Moore On England Debut And Life In Everton Women’s Academy

February's international break has seen several positive stories from the Blues camp.

Kenza Dali helped France win the Tournoi de France, Swedish Toffees Anna Anvegård, Nathalie Björn won the Algarve Cup, and Simone Magill has been firing in goals for Northern Ireland.

However, one story that stands out from Everton's internationalists is that of academy star Lois Moore.

The young forward has spent time on England camps but last Thursday won her first international cap when Moore replaced fellow Blue Grace Clinton for a half-hour display as England Under-19s beat Finland Under-19s 4-0.

A proud moment for Moore, who stated it was a dream come true.

“This was my first-time representing England,” she told evertonfc.com.

“I’ve been on short training camps with them but haven’t experienced a game before.

“I’ve dreamt about this moment for a long time, putting on an England jersey is every young footballer’s dream.

“I feel honoured to be able to represent my country.”

Her England debut is one of many highs Moore has experienced in the past few years, but the road to this point hasn’t been easy.

Moore joined Everton’s Academy at 11-years-old but three years later moved to the red side of the city.

She admits her development slowed down in the years that followed, but a return to Everton, Moore believes, has renewed momentum.

“At the tail-end of my time with Liverpool’s academy, I felt like I was slowing down,” she admitted.

“Around that time I met up with Tommy Walsh (Everton Academy Manager) and had a conversation with him and he opened the door for me to return to Everton.

“Since returning to the Club, both mentally and physically, I feel like it’s the best I’ve ever been.

“The encouragement from Tommy helps raise your confidence and it just elevates your whole performance.

“You can see that impact across our squad, the belief he has in us pushes us forward to new heights.

“I felt like my progress saw a decline after I left Everton, I felt like I was away from my home, where I should be.

I feel like Everton is my club.

“I don’t feel like I would have made the progress I have had I not returned to Everton.

“When you’re not in the right frame of mind, it’s not going to be easy to get where you want to be.

“The environment we have at Everton is fantastic and I feel like I’ve come on so much since coming back.”

The 18-year-old enjoyed a taste of first-team action during pre-season when she was involved in the squad that beat Rangers 2-1.

It was an eye-opening experience for the teenager and made her realise the standards she must meet if she is going to rise through the ranks at Everton.

“That was my first experience in a first-team environment and I really enjoyed it," added Moore.

“For me, it was the biggest step up I’ve had in my career, so far, in terms of the intensity and standards.

“That experience made me realise the standards I have to reach if I want to break through at this club, so it’s just added another element of fire to my game when I’ve been working in the development squad this season.

“Now I have had a taste of what the environment is like, I’m committed to working as hard as I can to get back in that environment in the near future.

“After that experience, I’m doing extra work after training. Working on my finishing, doing extra sessions in the gym.

“I’m committed to making this dream a reality.”
