Under-23s Look To Progress To Knockout Phase With Burnley Win

Everton Under-23s will look to extend their gap at the top of group D in the Premier League Cup when they travel to face Burnley on Friday night (7pm GMT).

David Unsworth’s side currently hold a two point gap over Peterborough, who have a game in hand, and a victory on Friday night would guarantee the Blues a spot in the knockout phases.

The young Toffees hosted Burnley back in October with late strikes from Rhys Hughes and Tom Cannon securing vital group stage points.

The Clarets have struggled with form recently, with only one win in their last nine outings.

However, with only six points separating the two sides, Everton must be on the top of their game to deny Friday’s hosts a late push for the knockout phases.

As for Everton, the Unsworth's side will be licking their wounds after a narrow 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City last week, bringing an end to a run of seven games unbeaten in all competitions.

The Premier League Cup holds fond memories for the Blues, with the Club being the last side to win the competition during the 2018/19 season. The seasons that followed were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The action is set to get underway in Burnley from 7pm (GMT) and evertonfc.com will have a full report and reaction following the match.
