Dali On Positives To Take From Arsenal Loss

Everton Women midfielder Kenza Dali says there is plenty to be positive about despite falling to defeat to Arsenal over the weekend.

The Blues suffered their third defeat of the season in a 3-0 loss in the Barclays FA Women's Super League on Sunday.

However, the France international believes the scoreline wasn't a fair reflection on the visitors' hard work and commitment throughout the 90 minutes.

“It sounds weird, but I don’t feel the usual way after a 3-0 defeat," Dali told evertontv. “I think they deserved the victory because if you watch the game back, their goalkeeper didn’t have a lot to do, whereas Sandy [MacIver] was quite busy.

“But I feel like we caused them a lot of problems.

“I don’t feel as disappointed as I was after [the losses to] Manchester City or Chelsea because I think we defended well.

“I feel like there’s a lot of positives. The second half was so much better.

DALI ON POSITIVES TO TAKE FROM ARSENAL LOSS

Everton Women midfielder Kenza Dali spoke in the aftermath of Sunday's defeat against Arsenal in the Barclays FA Women's Super League.

“We need to improve in the first half and to not respect them as much.

“Be more brave on the ball and things like this, but there is a lot of improvement."

The hosts maintained their 100-per-cent start in the WSL despite falling to defeat in the Champions League earlier in the week.

Dali highlighted the fact that not many teams will give Arsenal as tough a game as Everton gave them on Sunday, but it was now about building upon that performance.

“Arsenal is a top team," added the 30-year-old summer signing. “They play Champions League, they are really performing in the league this season and I think in the second half we caused them a lot of problems.

“It means we are a good team as well because there are not a lot of teams that can cause problems to a team like Arsenal.

“I think if we played the first half as we played the second half, like we had nothing to lose and play with more freedom [we could have got something from the game].

“It comes with maturity and experience.

“We’re still getting to know each other (the squad).

“We have a lot of new players and it’s only the fifth game of the season.

“We look so much better against a top team and we don’t drop points against teams that we have to take points from.

KIRK ON ARSENAL DEFEAT

Everton Women manager Willie Kirk spoke in the aftermath of Sunday's Barclays FA Women's Super League defeat at Arsenal.

“At one point of the season, we have to beat teams like this.

“It’s coming but we’re obviously disappointed a lot (from Arsenal defeat)."

The Toffees have a quick turnaround in preparations as they travel to face Manchester City in the Continental League Cup on Wednesday night.

Dali says the players are motivated to redeem themselves from their opening day 4-0 defeat against City at Goodison.

“The next game is of course against Manchester City which is a tough game," she added.

“It’s good because we’re already focusing on it.

“Everyone in the locker room is already thinking about the next game.

“That’s football. That’s how we are going to get better."
