Pickford Set For England Action

Jordan Pickford is poised to add to his 40 England caps after being named in Gareth Southgate's squad for next month's World Cup qualifying games against Andorra and Hungary.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, however, misses out with the quadriceps issue that has prevented him from featuring in his club's past three matches.

Manager Southgate's team are in pole position in qualifying Group I and will place one foot in the Qatar 2022 tournament with a repeat of their results against the same opponents last month.

Pickford banked his 20th international clean sheet in a 4-0 demolition of Hungary in Budapest, before watching from the bench as an entirely changed England XI brushed off Andorra by the same scoreline at Wembley.

The Everton goalkeeper returned from a short layoff with a shoulder injury to shutout Norwich City in a 2-0 Premier League win on Saturday.

Pickford, who made his senior England debut soon after joining Everton in the summer of 2017, could add to his cap collection in Andorra on Saturday 9 October and again three days later, when Hungary visit Wembley on Tuesday 12 October.

England have a four-point advantage over Albania at the top of their qualifying pool and complete their Group I fixtures in November with matches against the Albanians and San Marino.
