Townsend In Running For September Goal Prize

Andros Townsend’s stunning strike for Everton against Burnley is in contention for September’s Premier League Budweiser Goal of the Month award.

Everton forward Townsend had supplied the delivery for Michael Keane to draw his team level when he assumed responsibility for turning the game on its head.

Skipping infield to collect a pass from Abdoulaye Doucoure, Townsend advanced before unleashing a scorching 30-yard drive that flew into the top corner and prompted an explosion of noise inside Goodison Park.

Townsend, who has four goals and three assists from seven Everton starts, is on an eight-man shortlist for the September prize.

The Everton player is competing with the Manchester United pair of Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard, who has two goals in the running, for the award, claimed in August by Aston Villa striker Danny Ings.

Chelsea centre-forward Romelu Lukaku, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal, the Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita and Aston Villa full-back Matthew Cash, nominated for his goal against Everton, complete the list of contenders.
