Richarlison Wins Battle Of The Blues In Copa America

Richarlison's Brazil edged Yerry Mina's Colombia 2-1 after a late comeback in their Copa America Group B clash in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday night.

The Everton teammates and close friends both started for their respective nations and it appeared Mina looked set for the bragging rights when Colombia led with 12 minutes to go following Luis Diaz's stunning overhead kick on 10 minutes.

But Roberto Firmino's header set up a frantic finish, albeit in controversial circumstances, with Colombia angry that the ball had hit referee Nestor Pitana in the build-up.

And, after Richarlison had been replaced by Gabriel Barbosa, Brazil took the points in the 10th minute of stoppage time as Casemiro headed home from a corner.

The result means tournament hosts and defending champions Brazil have sealed first place in Group B and are now set for a favourable draw in the quarter-finals after Sunday’s final group-stage match with Ecuador.

Colombia are second in the table, having played a game more than the other four nations in their group.
