Kirk Calls On Everton To Be Braced For West Ham Fight

Everton manager Willie Kirk has warned his players they must match a West Ham side scrapping for Women's Super League survival when the two teams meet in Dagenham on Sunday (3pm BST kick-off).

The Blues head into the contest sitting fifth in the table, having won their past two league games with victories over Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Ham, meanwhile, are in a four-way relegation fight and go into this weekend just two points ahead of bottom-placed Bristol City.

Everton won the reverse fixture 3-1 against the Hammers back in October - but Kirk insists his squad will have to be prepared for the east Londoners' fight and determination to retain their top-flight status.

"These West Ham players are fighting for more than WSL status – they are potentially fighting for their jobs," said Kirk in his pre-match press conference. "That surely must bring an added determination. We need to match that. They are desperate to pick up any points."

Striker Simone Magill is available again after missing last weekend's 2-1 FA Cup win over Durham following her exploits in helping Northern Ireland qualify for Euro 2022.

French midfielder Maeva Clemaron faces a late fitness test on a hamstring niggle, meaning the only definite absentee for the trip to the capital is Club captain Dan Turner, who is out for the rest of the season with a calf injury.

Kirk added: "Simone Magill will be back available for the squad which is a boost. There are a couple of little knocks picked up this week. Maeva Clemaron has a tight hamstring that we are monitoring."
