Everton kick off their 2021 FA Youth Cup campaign against Wigan Athletic in a YouTube live third-round tie on Wednesday night (7pm GMT) – and ahead of the game we caught up with a member of the last Toffees team to win the trophy.

Leon Osman was part of a high-quality Everton squad – which included the likes of Richard Dunne, Tony Hibbert, Francis Jeffers and Danny Cadamarteri – that beat Blackburn Rovers 5-3 over two legs in the 1998 final.

Osman went on to play 433 First Team matches for Everton – placing him joint-10th alongside Dixie Dean in the Club’s all-time appearance list – and he explains how his time in Everton Academy provided an ideal grounding for his professional career.
