Jonathan Nsangou's first-half hat-trick sent Everton Under-18s on their way to a dominant 5-0 win against Reading in the Premier League Under-18s Cup.

Winger Amari Moses and midfielder Dafi Pemberton were also on target as the Blues, who kept a first clean sheet of the season in the process, go straight to the top of Group A.

Nsangou was on target after just three minutes before new signing Arthur Barratt set up winger Moses, making his first start of the season, to double the Toffees’ lead with just 10 minutes on the clock.

By the 32nd minute Nsangou, fresh off being named in the Team of the Tournament in the 2026 Geneva Cup with our Under-17s group, had secured his hat-trick with his third and the team’s fourth goal the pick of the bunch – a period patient build-up and a series of well-worked passes concluding with Nsangou finishing clinically past goalkeeper Franky Rose.

The match looked over as a contest from there, with Pemberton’s 76th-minute strike only adding to the sense of dominance from the Toffees.

But Taylor was left most pleased with his side’s defensive efforts, after the Under-18s and goalkeeper Seve Patrick were denied a clean sheet in our opening league game of the season against Leeds United.

“Jonathan will rightly dominate the headlines with the hat-trick, but there were standout performances from others as well,” Taylor told evertonfc.com.

“The biggest plus for me was we kept our first clean sheet of the season. We’ve been working a lot on getting them to understand how important that is.

“There’s hopefully a bit of growth there from what we’ve been working on in training. But we played really well overall and we were clinical in both boxes.

“We got into excellent areas of the pitch. We’ve been working on that a lot in training as well since Leeds, on needing to be better in the opposition box. So today is really pleasing.

“The fourth goal was the standout. It was an excellent finish from Jonathan and it came after a lot of really patient play between the lines.”
