David Moyes spoke to evertontv after the Blues' 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town in Goodison Park's penultimate game. Keep reading – or watch the video below – to find out what the manager had to say...
- David - how do you reflect on today's game?
DM: Disappointed that we didn't manage to get all three points. I thought we started really well and I thought we played well today as well. I thought there were a lot of good things about us – we controlled a lot of the game – but they are a tricky team, Ipswich, which people will know if they've watched a lot of football. They build up very well from the goalkeeper, out through the team and up to the front line.
So we had that to cope with in the first half but I thought the two goals we scored to get ourselves in front were thoroughly deserved.
Then we gave up a goal, which was pretty slack from our point of view but, obviously, it was a wonderful finish from the boy [Julio Enciso], so we'll hold our hand up to that.
I thought the second half we had a lot of the ball and dominated it. We got some really good crosses and balls into the box but there were a lack of shots on goal.
I don't know if we truly deserved to draw the game, but then we might not have done enough to get it over the line to win in the second half.
- The two changes you made to the starting line-up both came in and made an impact, with Dwight [McNeil] scoring and Charly [Alcaraz] getting an assist. How pleased are you for those two?
DM: I'm really pleased because I think with Charly we know and we're trying to give him the opportunity to show what he can do. I thought he did some good things today.
Dwight I've not had since I've been here. He's been injured since since I arrived and he's not quite been up to the intensity of the speed of training and the games. I actually thought in the first half he still wasn't there, even though he scored his goal, then in the second half I thought he did better and put in two or three brilliant crosses for us. They're the ones we have to try to score if we're going to win.
But Ipswich kept at us, they just never let us get away from them and in the end it was costly for us.
- Finally, a word for the supporters, even though there is some disappointment at not winning the game, what did you make of the scenes and the atmosphere as the players came out of the tunnel ahead of kick-off?
It was an incredible atmosphere we had here. We were really disappointed not to win and the supporters were disappointed with that as well but I think, behind it, a bit like myself, there's a bit where we've seen some good signs. The disappointment would have been if we were going to be a relegated team – and we're not a relegated team. We've stayed up and there are a lot of positives. The players have done really well. We're having a bit of a problem when we go 2-0 up here at the moment so we need to try and see what we can do better.
