Seamus Coleman interviewed former Toffees teammate, and close friend, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after Everton's 1-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park on Monday night.

The Blues saw off the Magpies for the second time in four days courtesy of Thierno Barry's 49th-minute winner to move up to seventh in the Premier League.

Player of the match in Thursday's 3-1 Carabao Cup success, Dewsbury-Hall did it again in the North East with another outstanding midfield display to further push his claims for an England call-up later this month.

And after the full-time whistle at St James' Park. Everton's No.8 spoke to his ex-Blues captain Coleman, with the Toffees icon a studio guest on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football...

That must mean a lot when you get a hug like that from the Gaffer?

Yeah, you don’t get many of them off the Gaffer so I must have done alright. What a win. I’m really, really happy. It’s been a great four days.

What is the feeling the camp after that?

Really, really happy. I thought that was one of our best performances of the season. It’s a tough place to come, especially after beating them four days before so they were going to come back at us with extra impetus to win the game. I thought we played really well, we stopped their momentum. We scored a nice goal and the most important thing is a clean sheet, so happy days!

Did you talk beforehand that if you did start well, you could get the crowd to turn?

For sure. We know they want to start really well at home, so if we can try to counteract that and start well, it’s only going to go in our favour. I thought at the start it was us pressing and pushing for a goal. We had some good opportunities and that set the tone for the rest of the game.

SEAMUS: I saw you getting a hug like that from the manager every day. We spoke in the week about how important this week was for Everton. You’ve stepped up massively for Everton. I thought you were the best player on the pitch tonight. A great week...

I thought this week was massive for us. I think if we had two different results, it’d be a much different feel around the Club but we’re in the quarter-finals of the cup and in the top half of the league. It’s been a top week and I’m really happy.

Are you and the Club both striving for more…

Overall, it’s been a positive 18 months for the Club with everything that’s gone on, with the new stadium and we got so close to getting in Europe last season. I came to this club because it’s a massive, massive club. It’s a sleeping giant of the English game so I really want to do something here, win some silverware or give the fans something to scream about, because they’re unbelievable.

You see them home and away. I’m really happy we’re through to the next round. I want to keep pushing and pushing. I’m not here to just go through the motions and finish mid-table. No, I want to push for something, because I’m coming into the prime years of my career and I want to show and look back on my career and say I’m done something for a massive football club.

England call-up to end a good week?

We’ll have to wait and see! It’s about time Seamus stops asking me to play for Ireland! It is what it is. I’ll just keep trying to put in good performances like that and whatever happens, happens. I’ve said in the past, if I’m performing for my football club, it only gives me a better chance of playing for my country. And I’ll keep doing that until I hang my boots up.
