What The Papers Say –13 November

England’s 3-0 friendly victory over Republic of Ireland on Thursday features across today’s back pages.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his second senior international goal, crashing home from the penalty spot to wrap up England's success.

The Daily Mail says Everton striker Calvert-Lewin “took the kick beautifully” - the paper adding in its player ratings section, where they awarded the 23-year-old 7/10, "Calvert-Lewin played the role of England's focal point expertly and took his penalty brilliantly".

Everton defender Michael Keane started and finished the match to win his 12th cap. His performance also earned a 7/10 score in the Mail, which said Keane "cruised through this game and looks far more confident than he did towards the end of last season".

French outlet le10Sport reckons Carlo Ancleotti will press for Everton to sign Isco from Real Madrid in January.

Spain international Isco, whose Bernabeu Stadium contract expires in June 2022, could “imitate” former Madrid teammate James Rodriguez by switching to Everton, according to the report.

Le10Sport suggests the La Liga club “would not be opposed” to Isco exiting in the new year and would ask for €20m for the 28-year-old former Malaga midfielder.

The Liverpool Echo includes quotes from former Everton striker Ibrahima Bakayoko, who has reflected on his eight months with the Club after joining in October 1998.

Speaking originally to Everton’s matchday programme for last week’s encounter with Manchester United, Bakayoko said:  “I was quickly at ease on arrival. There was an amazing atmosphere around the Club, it was exceptional.

"The fans were great with me. Everton is known for having a lot of Season Ticket Holders and very passionate support.

"I was very happy to play in front of those Evertonians and for the Club.

"I can’t say I would do things differently at Everton. It was not in my hands. I am happy I went to Everton and played for the Club and gave everything I could.”

The Irish Independent says Seamus Coleman “aggravated a thigh injury” training with the Republic of Ireland national team on Wednesday.

Everton captain Coleman was in line to play for the Irish against England at Wembley but sat out the fixture.

Ben Godfrey has been talking to the York Press. The defender insisted he had already gained an “astronomical” amount of knowledge from manager Ancelotti after joining Everton from Norwich City last month.

Godfrey, 22, who began his career with York City, also claimed he is acquiring valuable tips from fellow Yorkshiremen Calvert-Lewin and Mason Holgate.

“Mason’s a centre-back himself, he’s played for Everton for a few years now, so he’s definitely someone I can learn from,” said Godfrey.

“Dom’s another who has played for Everton for a few years but you still see him outside after training practising his finishing.

“These are boys who have represented Everton a lot more than myself so there are bits and pieces I can take. They’re great lads as well and I’m so appreciative of them being so welcoming.

“It’s a perfect scenario for me. The manager has been through it all and done everything. The knowledge he can pass onto myself and the other boys is unbelievable.

“The amount I’ve gathered from him in just a few weeks is astronomical. It’s massive to be playing under him and I’m just looking forward to the future.”

Goal.com features quotes from Italian Ancelotti, who reckons the Club’s Colombian forward James Rodriguez is in the perfect environment to express his rare talent.

“He wanted a new challenge, was desperate to play, and I think he found the right place, because he knows me, I know him ... the club wants to improve, the Club has a big project,” said Ancelotti.

"I think that he found the right place to show his quality and, of course, the player is really, really talented; he doesn't miss a pass, he doesn't miss a control, he doesn't miss a shot. He doesn't play complicated football, he plays simple."

Jordan Pickford’s main rival for the England number one jersey, meanwhile, says the Everton man deserves his position in Gareth Southgate’s team.

Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope told talkSPORT: “I think it’s fair to say he’s number one at the minute. If you look at the last 25, 30 fixtures, he’d have played probably 28 of them.

“So, a person with that sort of record in the national team, I think he deserves to be called number one, as he’s earned it.

“It’s not happened overnight. It’s happened over two, three years of consistently playing for England.”

Besiktas president Ahmet Nur Çebi has told Sport Witness he wants a return to the club for Cenk Tosun.

Striker Tosun swapped Besiktas for Everton in January 2018. He appeared twice from the bench for Everton this month after overcoming an anterior cruciate ligament injury and scored for Turkey on his international comeback this week.

“We want to rejuvenate the team,” said Cebi. “I want a striker transfer.

“Cenk Tosun comes to the fore as a name. Cenk Tosun is with a club now, connected, but I would like to try it if there is a chance.”
