What The Papers Say - 9 November

Monday’s edition of The Independent features Carlo Ancelotti, who has pinpointed the key area where Everton must improve when the Blues return to action after the international break.

Ancelotti’s side will aim to hit back following Saturday's defeat to Manchester United when the Toffees take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on 21 November.

“We prepared the game [against United] and focused on the defensive aspect,” said the Everton manager.

“We have to work more on this aspect because the last few games, in the last period, we have conceded too many goals.”

The Liverpool Echo also carries quotes from Ancelotti, who has allayed any fears James Rodriguez may have suffered an injury after he was substituted deep into the second half in Saturday’s game.

He said: “James did 80 minutes and he asked me to change it because he was tired, but no physical problem.”

And in the Manchester Evening News, Harry Maguire explains why the decision not to award Manchester United a penalty following a challenge between him and Jordan Pickford was correct.

“I personally don’t think it was [a penalty],” he said.

“I think maybe I fouled Jordan first. I did put a hand into his chest when he went to catch the ball.”
