Ancelotti: I Can See The Determination In Our Squad To Keep Winning

We are in the situation we wanted before the season started and tonight we have the ambition and motivation to continue in the same way.

In football, it is a really good life when you are winning.

This match provides a chance to reach a quarter-final and carry on the momentum created in our season.

But West Ham will share our feeling about this being an opportunity to get closer to the end of an important competition.

The challenge is increasing with every round. We rotated the selection for the past two cup matches; it is impossible for players to be 100-per-cent fit at the start of a season and we have to manage the busy schedule.

The players who played only in the cup so far have been really good: serious and focused and motivated.

I have confidence in all of them.

To consistently win matches you need a lot of different qualities. In fact, I can say that you have to show many different faces to win even one game in the Premier League.

Against Crystal Palace on Saturday we had some fantastic combinations in attack.

Our first goal was really good play between Abdoulaye Doucoure, James and Seamus Coleman.

Fast and precise passing and quick movement.

Dominic was in the middle of the goal where we want him and put in another good finish.

I had no issue saying to the media last week I want Dominic and Richarlison to score 20 goals each this season, minimum.

This is completely normal for top strikers. They are doing really well and understand what we want from them.

Both players have a big hunger to improve. They already have valuable qualities but they are young, with possibilities to continue developing.

Our football in the second half against Crystal Palace was not so exceptional but we had all the other things you need for good results.

Every player had spirit and attitude and concentration. We faced a lot of set-pieces and were strong every time after letting in a goal from a corner in the first half.

It showed me the players can solve problems on the pitch, like they did last time at Goodison Park against West Bromwich Albion to get past some challenging moments.

The way Crystal Palace scored was disappointing but mistakes are not an issue for me if the players use them to learn and avoid the same situation happening again.

We could have built up play quicker from the back at the weekend. I think maybe in this aspect we had some worries because of the goal we conceded under pressure against Fleetwood last week.

This is one of the many areas where we can work to improve for the future.

We welcome the staff and players of West Ham United to Goodison tonight.

Firstly, everyone at Everton extends their best wishes to David Moyes and hopes he makes a quick and complete recovery after his positive test for coronavirus.

Last time we met at Goodison, David was managing Everton and he did a really excellent job for a long time for this club.

He is an experienced football man with a lot of knowledge and his teams are very tough to play against.

West Ham will be strong in defence, with a lot of challenges and closing the spaces, but very dangerous on the transition with fast and skilful players up front.

I can see in our squad the determination to keep going in the same way, being competitive in every game and trying to use our qualities to continue winning and having this nice feeling.

Tonight we will again play in an empty Goodison and after the latest Government advice it seems this situation could be with us for longer than we hoped.

Our job on the pitch is to give you happiness watching Everton and play football which makes you really excited about coming to the games when it is safe.

We cannot be together physically now. But we can be together in this difficult moment by following all the protocols to stop the spread of this virus and bringing life back to normal as soon as possible.
