Wednesday’s Daily Mail says Everton landed James Rodriguez without needing to pay a transfer fee for the forward.

Colombian James, who had one year remaining on his Real Madrid contract, signed at Goodison Park on Monday.

“Real compromised on their original ambition to sell the player for a substantial transfer fee,” claims the Mail, with the Spanish club instead agreeing a cut of any sell-on price.

James, Golden Boot winner at the 2014 World Cup, signed a two-year deal at Everton, with a Club option for a third season, and could potentially make his debut in Sunday’s Premier League opening fixture at Tottenham Hotspur.

Calciomercato reckons Everton will go back to Napoli for a second player after tying up a transfer for midfielder Allan from the Serie A club last week.

The Blues’ next Naples-based target is Mexican Hirving Lozano, according to the Italian outlet, with Everton “preparing to submit an official offer” for a player long linked with Goodison.

Loazno, 25, has been with Napoli one year after joining from PSV Eindhoven, where he was signed by current Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands.

Everton have also this week been mooted as a possible loan destination for Fikayo Tomori, Chelsea’s England international centre-half.

Tomori, 22, had temporary spells with Hull City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County, where he was 2018/19 player of the year before returning to impress for his parent club last term.

The Athletic reports a deal between Chelsea and Everton for the player is “in the balance” and “unlikely to be resolved soon”.

The Liverpool Echo, meanwhile, features a story on the worldwide reaction to James’ arrival at Everton.

Images of the South American were prominently displayed in four cities: Liverpool, Miami, New York and Colombian capital Bogota, with Everton’s coverage of the transfer said to have reached 400m.

“We have been really pleased by the reaction we have seen already and excited by the prospect of what’s ahead, including establishing our first international office in the USA,” said Director of Marketing, Communications and Community Richard Kenyon.

“Everton is a big club with big ambitions globally – having James on board will undoubtedly help us achieve them more quickly."
