What The Papers Say – 26 June

Friday’s edition of L’Equipe includes quotes from Gabriel Magalhaes, the Lille defender repeatedly linked with Everton ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The Brazilian centre-half, who has been with Lille for three years, is attracting attention from a number of clubs following a 2019/20 campaign when he played 34 matches in all competitions and helped his side finish fourth in Ligue 1.

“It is gratifying because there are a lot of teams talking about me,'” Gabriel told the French publication.

'I want to go as high as possible, I came to Europe for that. England or Italy? Both are good championships.

“We don't know yet where I'm going to go. Wherever I go it will be to play, to be at the top, at the highest level. And above all in a team that will allow me to go to the Selecao [Brazil national team]."

The Daily Mail features news that the trio of Oumar Niasse, Cuco Martina and Luke Garbutt will exit Everton when their respective contracts expire on 30 June.

Everton yesterday announced which players would leave the Club this summer.

But, as detailed in the Mail, Everton agreed short-term extensions with loan right-back Djibril Sidibe and Leighton Baines, the evergreen left-back who has been offered a new one-year Goodison deal.

Football Insider claims Everton will be given the opportunity to bring John Stones back to the Club from Manchester City.

Centre-back Stones left Goodison for City four years ago but the website reckons “agents are set to be mandated to find him a new club”.

The 26-year-old played 95 games for Everton after joining from Barnsley in January 2013 and is said to have interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Corriere del Mezzogiorno in Italy says mooted Everton target Hirving Lozano has asked agent Mino Raiola to find him a new club after one year with Napoli.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti was in charge at the Stadio San Paolo when Lozano signed last summer and the 24-year-old Mexican worked with Blues Director of Football Marcel Brands at PSV Eindhoven.

Napoli are ready to sell Lozano, according to the report, but want to recoup a significant chunk of the £42m it cost to take him to Italy.

Another Italian outlet in Il Messagero declares Everton have submitted a bid for Patrik Schick, the AS Roma striker enjoying a fine season on loan with RB Leipzig.

Czech international Schick, 24, has netted 10 times for Leipzig and helped the German club reach next month’s Champions League quarter-finals.

It is suggested Leipzig can’t afford to acquire Schick on permanent terms and Everton and Newcastle United are both ready to pounce.
