What The Papers Say - 28 May

Thursday’s Liverpool Echo focuses on Djibril Sidibe’s Everton future, with the paper reporting his loan deal expires on 30 June.

With the Premier League campaign potentially being extended past that date, the paper claims Everton will hold talks with Sidibe over the possibility of extending his loan contract “once the season has been given the go-ahead to resume”.

The Echo adds that, if Everton want to prolong the Frenchman’s stay at Goodison Park, the Blues will have to strike an agreement with his parent club AS Monaco.

The Daily Star suggests Manchester City centre-back John Stones could be in line for a return to Everton during the summer transfer window.

England international Stones played 95 games for the Toffees before leaving for City in 2016. The 26-year-old is also rumoured to be attracting the attention of Newcastle United.

Back to the Echo, and the local read carries quotes from Everton Women boss Willie Kirk, who says ending the 2019/20 Women’s Super League season was “the right decision”.

“It’s disappointing we’ve not been able to finish the season, but we’re comfortable with the decision,” he added.

“The players have been very committed to their programmes.

“They can now enjoy this time to rest. They need that because, while we have not had football in a couple of months, they have been non-stop with their training.”
