Unsworth: Chelsea Test Will Provide 'Barometer' For Under-23s

David Unsworth believes Everton Under-23s’ clash at Premier League 2 leaders Chelsea on Monday night (7pm) will provide a “great barometer” of his team’s progress.

Chelsea are unbeaten in the league so far this season but Unsworth’s side are in impressive form themselves having racked up three consecutive victories.

After a thumping 4-0 win at Plymouth Argyle, Everton secured dramatic successes against Derby County and Watford – striker Ellis Simms scoring last-minute winners in both those games.

While Unsworth is expecting his team to face a stern examination against Chelsea, he says his players will approach the match at Aldershot FC’s EBB Stadium with confidence.

“I love playing Chelsea at this level – it’s always a tough challenge,” Unsworth explained.

“It’s a test for our boys and a great barometer for where we are at. We’ve had some great battles down the years and I expect another one on Monday.

“I know Chelsea’s manager, Andy Myers, very well. He’s got them playing some good football. He’s really got them going. They’re very powerful and very direct.

“Ever since I got the job [as Under-23s manager], Chelsea have been the go-to team – if you’re beating them, you’re doing well.

“I’m really looking forward to the test.”
