What The Papers Say - 31 December

Everton are frontrunners to sign Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez in January, according to Spain’s El Desmarque.

The publication believes, however, that the Blues will face competition from Arsenal, Inter Milan, Roma, Marseille and Napoli if they pursue the 28-year-old Colombia international, who is said to be valued at £43million.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail speculates Everton have sounded out the availability of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The France international, 24, has found his game time limited since joining Juve from Paris St Germain last summer but the Serie A champions are thought to be reluctant to let him go.

The Liverpool Echo gives its opinion on why Carlo Ancelotti was “the right choice” for Everton.

The paper also carries quotes from midfielder Fabian Delph, who outlines the improvements the Blues have already made under Ancelotti despite the Italian only leading his first training session eight days ago.

Finally, the Echo speaks to Everton Under-18s boss Paul Tait about the progress of 16-year-old Academy starlet Tyler Onyango. The midfielder's impressive form for the Under-18s saw him elevated to David Unsworth's Under-23s set up for the first time in October.
