Richarlison's Everton Vow Ahead Of Burnley Test

Richarlison wants to use his impressive individual display against Manchester City on Saturday as a launchpad to “get among the goals and continue improving” – starting at Burnley this weekend.

The Brazilian, Everton’s joint-top scorer last term with 14, has struck three times this season but insists he is only now hitting his groove following a hectic summer.

Richarlison’s bustling contribution forced City onto their heels for periods of a frenetic game at Goodison Park last weekend, the 22-year-old integral to Everton’s counter-attacking ploy.

He twice won free-kicks in dangerous positions with surging runs, had two attempts at goal and put in a substantial defensive shift, too, making more tackles [6] and contesting more duels [21] than any other player on the field.

Richarlison and his team, however, received no reward for all their industry and creativity (Everton’s eight shots on target was the most fielded by City since November 2015) and go to Burnley’s Turf Moor home seeking lift off ahead of this month’s international break.

“We need to put in a great performance at Burnley to return to winning ways, we put in a lot of effort against Manchester City but we will recover and prepare well for a hard match,” Richarlison told evertontv.

“I approached this season the same way I always have. Things go well for you sometimes and not at others.

“You have to continue to work hard and I want to be among the goals and helping Everton.

“I was disappointed after the City game because we lost and I always give my all on the pitch.

“I was happier with my performance, though, because I felt I improved [on this season’s games].

“I want to continue on this path.

“I have done a lot of travelling recently with my club and national team.

“Now I want to continue with the rhythm I have and keep improving.”

Richarlison had only a fortnight to prepare for this campaign after scoring the last goal in Brazil’s Copa America final victory over Peru on 7 July.

He was sufficiently up to speed to play in Everton’s opening Premier League game at Crystal Palace and has started all nine of his side’s games this term.

Marco Silva’s team have efficiently navigated two Carabao Cup ties to set up a last-16 encounter with Richarlison’s former club Watford later this month.

Everton’s most recent league success, though, came against Wolves at the start of September when Richarlison scored twice in a 3-2 win.

The South American netted in Everton’s 5-1 victory at Burnley last term. A similar three-point return from the fixture this weekend could see manager Silva’s side jumping up a congested Premier League table, which has Everton separated by only five points from Arsenal in fourth.

“We fought very hard for the entire game against City, now our next game is really important, we want to win and keep improving,” added Richarlison.

“We managed to push Manchester City back and unfortunately the goals did not go in from the chances we created – but who knows what will happen from these chances in the next game?

“It will be difficult at Burnley but we will prepare well and go there trying to win the match.

"It is a matter of working hard, everybody is trying to contribute and make a big effort. We have to think of the next match as a good opportunity for us to get an important win."
