Jordan Pickford features in Friday’s edition of the Liverpool Echo, with the Everton goalkeeper praising the influence of midfielder Fabian Delph.

The 29-year-old joined the Blues from Manchester City in the summer and – ahead of Everton’s meeting with Pep Guardiola’s team at Goodison Park on Saturday (5.30pm) – Pickford revealed the key qualities Delph has added to the Everton squad.

“It's great to have someone like Delphy,” he said. “The more leaders the better and I would class him as a leader, as well as many others, in the squad.

“Delphy was playing for Leeds when he was 16-years-old, he's experienced and he has a winning mentality.”

Sky Sports also carries an interview with Pickford, who detailed how he feels his composure in possession has improved.

"I've always thought I've been decent from playing out from the back but it's about how to take things to the next level,” he added.

"I've shown a lot more calmness [this season].”

Back to the Echo, and Everton Under-23s boss David Unsworth has explained the Club’s decision to offer midfielder Harry Charsley a short-term contract until January.

The 22-year-old has played an important role in the young Blues’ impressive start to the season. The Toffees will go top of the Premier League 2 table with a win over Manchester City at Southport FC on Friday night.

“Harry’s been with us since he was five or six,” Unsworth said. “He got injured towards the end of the season and it was a real serious injury, a stress fracture of his back.

“What we didn’t want to do and what we don’t do at this club is chuck kids to the side and not look after them.

“He couldn’t do anything for three or four months and we have an obligation to look after the player.

“We felt it was the right decision to give him a contract until January to get fit and stay fit.”
