Everton midfielder Davies Features In Young Lions Success

Tom Davies completed 90 minutes as England Under-21s began their European Championship qualifying campaign in thrilling style against Turkey.

Arsenal striker Reiss Nelson struck the deciding goal with 15 minutes remaining as Aidy Boothroyd's side hit back from 2-1 down to secure a dramatic victory in Izmit.

Eddie Nketiah had drawn England level 60 seconds before Nelson's winner.

Forward Nketiah, currently on loan with Leeds United from Arsenal, opened the scoring on four minutes.

The hosts levelled through midfielder Dogukan Sinic in minute 25 before turning the game on its head when Sassuolo defender Murt Muldur scored six minutes after half-time.

Everton midfielder Davies, who was making his 13th Under-21 appearance, will hope for cap number 14 when England return home to play their second Group C game against Kosovo at Hull City's KCOM Stadium on Monday.

Elsewhere, Everton striker Moise Kean played the opening 45 minutes of Italy Under-21s' 4-0 friendly success against Moldova in Catania.

Kean's side begins its bid to reach the 2021 European finals in Hungary and Slovenia with a game against Luxembourg at Castel di Sangro's Stadio Teofilo Patini on Tuesday.
