Magill: Everton Deserves Full-Time Status

Simone Magill says there is “no Club better deserving” of turning professional after she joined the Toffees’ full-time ranks.

All week members of Andy Spence’s playing squad have been announced as signing pro deals, with striker Magill the latest to commit her future to the Blue Girls.

The Northern Ireland international has penned a two-year deal, joining Gabby George, Georgia Brougham and Claudia Walker in signing new contracts.

And she says the move to full-time comes at the right time for the Club. “It is what you always dream of when you are a kid,” she told evertontv. “It’s fantastic that it is now possible to do it in the women’s game. It’s a dream come true to turn professional.

“It’s great to do so at Everton. I came over here from Northern Ireland when I was 18 and I have stayed for the good times and the bad. There is no Club better deserving of being back in WSL 1 and going full-time. It’s definitely where the Club belongs, and I am thrilled I get to be a part of that.

“It’s a major step for us and takes us up to that next level. But with the capabilities we have in the squad there is no better time for us to do it. We are ready.”

With her future secured, Magill is now looking forward to preparing for the new season.

“This is where the hard work really begins for us,” she added. “We have a good couple of months in order to put some solid foundations in, and we have had a great Spring Series campaign on which to build them. Hopefully we can go on to put our stamp on WSL 1.

“It is fantastic to be able to go full-time with a group of girls I know really well now. This is the best Everton has ever been since I have been at the Club. To go and win the Spring Series was great and there is a real buzz around the camp.

“There is a really good group of girls here and we will take our success in the Spring Series through to the league season in September.”
