What The Papers Say - 18 April

Sean Dyche has insisted his players must give the fans more to make noise about if Everton are to be at their best in the remaining fixtures.

As quoted by the Liverpool World, the Blues manager is aware of the significance of the supporters at the Club, and speaking after the game, Dyche said: “One thing we’re sure of is that I won’t be questioning the fans because since I’ve been here, they’ve been absolutely amazing.

“Everyone knows that, and as soon as we scored, they got right behind the team. But, it’s a dual thing. I said when I came here: ‘We’ve got to give them something and they give us something back or vice versa, they sometimes give you something as a team, the energy.

“But, it’s a dual responsibility. We started a bit edgy; they started a bit edgy, we scored, and they erupted and got right on it. After Fulham’s second goal, we didn’t give them enough to go on - you’ve got to give the fans something to go on.”

In a potential boost for the Toffees, Dyche also revealed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is nearing a return to action.

Quoted by the Daily Mail, the Everton manager discussed the striker’s recovery.

'Dom's going well which is a positive,' Dyche said. 'He'll be back hopefully in the thinking this week as long as the week goes well.

“He's had a very good week this week and we want him to have another very good week next week and then we'll see how he's feeling.”

Elsewhere, Belgium manager, Domenico Tedesco, has been full of praise for Everton’s Amadou Onana. Speaking to RTBF, and quoted by Sport Witness, Tedesco explained Onana’s different role in the Belgium team.

“He plays as an eight at Everton, but for us, he is a six who plays in front of the defence,” he said.

“We’ll see for the other games because he wants to be in the team. It doesn’t matter what position; he wants to help the team.

“He is young and sometimes you forget he is only 21. He can even play for the national U21 team. He is very mature. He learned a lot when he was in Germany.

“Now he is in England at a good club, because it is not easy to play at Everton, where the fans are there, and the stadium is beautiful. But he is performing well.”
