Christiansen: Evertonians Key To Our Evolution

Captain Izzy Christiansen believes the unique bond between the Senior Women's squad and their growing fanbase is key to delivering success for Everton.

Several milestones have been achieved so far this season, including a record-breaking home attendance of 22,161 achieved at Goodison Park in March for the Merseyside derby.

However, a motivation for the Women’s side is to continue to grow the attendance at their usual stomping ground of Walton Hall Park.

Christiansen is confident the team are making strides towards that goal, and credited the Blues' style of play being a key factor.

“The way we want to play football, it’s attractive and you get that feeling from the fans when we play,” she told evertonfc.com.

“They get behind us when we attack, and you can feel that energy as a player. It spurs us on.

“At the end of the game [2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur on 2 April] when I was sat on the bench, I thought this is the best atmosphere it’s ever been at this stadium.

“It’s excellent. It just goes to show what we’re building here.”

The English midfielder added the unity between the players and supporters is clear for all to see and it’s no coincidence results are influenced by the passionate support.

“You can feel the togetherness,” Christiansen said.

“Against Spurs, we had fans from America and from Ireland who came to support us.

“We feed off that support. The intensity in our play increases when the fans make noise.

“There’s definitely correlation between our performances and how great our fans are.

“You look back on the night at Goodison Park, what an occasion. It's a shame we couldn’t win, but let’s not take away from the fact that there was more than 22,000 Evertonians inside that stadium.

“There’s an appetite for the game, we just have to keep building week-on-week on our performance and grow the game off the pitch, and our fanbase is integral.

“We keep moving forward. Keep moving in the right direction. Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
