What The Papers Say - 9 February

Fabrizio Romano is unconvinced by rumours linking Jarrad Branthwaite with a move away from Everton. The young defender continues to impress on loan at PSV and, after scoring twice last night during a 3-1 victory over FC Emmen, the former Carlisle United player has been linked with a move to Manchester United.

However, speaking on the Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, transfer expert Romano said: “I’m not aware of this at this stage.

“He’s doing great but Manchester United have different priorities. The scouts of top clubs are always around Europe and so it’s normal to have these kinds of links.”

According to German news outlet Kicker and reported by the Liverpool Echo, Everton are considering a deal to sign Hoffenheim midfielder, Dennis Geiger.

The 24-year-old’s contract is set to expire in the summer, and therefore the player could be available on a free transfer.

Geiger came through the ranks with Hoffenheim and since making his debut in 2017, has made 108 appearances for the Bundesliga club.

The link comes amid continued rumours of Everton’s interest in Udinese striker, Beto. The Portuguese striker has scored seven Serie A goals so far this season.

According to Mondo Udinese and reported by the Liverpool Echo, the Blues did all they could to secure 25-year-old's services in January and will now prepare a second bid of up to €30m to secure the services of Beto in the summer.

Away from transfer news, Ian Wright has had his say on the upcoming Merseyside Derby, and the former Premier League striker was full of praise for Everton heading into the fixture.

Speaking on NBC Sports and reported by the Liverpool Echo, Wright claimed: “Everton are everything that Liverpool are not.

“The energy that they've got in the middle of the park with (Amadou) Onana, (Abdoulaye) Doucoure, and the willingness to work. It's a big thing to say but I can see Everton going there and winning that game and continuing their climb up the table."

“Liverpool fans know that all is not well. They know that in this moment, Everton coming off that (win against Arsenal) to play them, Liverpool fans know they could beat them. They're very honest with themselves.”
