What The Papers Say - 2 November

Reaction to Everton’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at Wolves features in Tuesday’s national newspapers.

The Daily Mail includes quotes from Rafa Benitez, who insisted the “character” his team showed in the second half of the game must be displayed throughout the entirety of matches.

After falling two goals down in the first half at Molineux, Alex Iwobi halved the deficit on 66 minutes but – despite Everton applying pressure in search of a leveller – the Toffees left the West Midlands empty-handed.

“We had a lot of character and chances in the second half, it was maybe a little too late,” Benitez said. “That was the reaction we were expecting but it was just a shame we didn't do it in the first half.”

The Blues boss added he expects a much-improved performance from his side when Tottenham Hotspur visit Goodison Park on Sunday.

“Tottenham are a very good team and with a new manager I am sure they will show commitment to show they are good players, but I am quite confident we will do better.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the special guest on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football and the Liverpool Echo includes quotes given by the Everton striker on the show.

Calvert-Lewin is currently out with a quadriceps injury and he opened up on the mental challenges of being his spell on the sidelines.

“It's been so frustrating to start the season with three goals in three games and be injured,” he explained. “I was almost there, only for my injury to reoccur.

"The hardest part is the mental part, to see the lads play and not have an impact. I love scoring goals and that’s what keeps me going in my rehab. It’s difficult. I want to play in every game. “

Everton are tipped to make a move for Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard in Football Insider.

Lingard’s contract with the Old Trafford club expires at the end of this season and the publication features former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips, who said: “A lot of Premier League teams will be looking at him but he would fit in well at Everton. Geographically, it would make a lot of sense as well.”
