Supporters attending Everton’s home fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Wednesday 16 September (KO 7.45pm), are advised to allow additional time for their journey due to significant emergency roadworks on Great Howard Street.

Scottish Power is currently carrying out urgent infrastructure works, resulting in a full northbound closure on Great Howard Street between the Paisley Street area and Walter Street.

The closure will remain in place for the Carabao Cup fixture and is expected to cause additional congestion on routes around the stadium and city centre.

The situation will be reviewed later this week ahead of Everton’s home game against Ipswich Town on Saturday 19 September, kick-off 3pm, once a further update on the works has been received.

Liverpool City Council and transport partners will also provide information to local residents, businesses and commuters regarding the closure and anticipated congestion.

CHANGES TO MATCHDAY TRAVEL

A revised traffic management plan will be in operation for the Wolves fixture to help manage supporter journeys safely.

Stadium Shuttle Buses

Due to the Great Howard Street closure, shuttle buses travelling from the city centre will operate on a revised route via Vauxhall Road and Boundary Street.

Buses will be given priority through Boundary Street and the railway arch corridor post-match. The pre-match drop-off location will now be relocated to the current post-match location on Great Howard Street at its junction with Lightbody Street. The post-match pick-up location remains unchanged..

Supporters using the shuttle service should allow some additional journey time due to the wider road closures and expected congestion.

Nelson Dock, West Quay and Blue Badge parking

The Great Howard Street closure will affect access for supporters travelling to Nelson Dock, West Quay and Blue Badge parking within the Ten Streets area.

Revised traffic arrangements will be in place, including changes around Boundary Street, with stewards, traffic management teams and police supporting vehicle movements where required.

As a result of these works, Boundary Street from Vauxhall Street down to Great Howard will be made one-way heading towards the Stadium, from 4pm to 8pm.

Visitors booked into Nelson Dock car park are advised to come down Boundary Street and turn left onto Great Howard Street and then right onto Walter Street. For West Quay car park, turn right at the bottom of Boundary Street and then left into Boundary Street with Regent Road.

Supporters using these areas should follow matchday signage and instructions from traffic management staff on arrival.

Boundary Street  - One-Way Traffic And Bus Priority

From 4pm on Wednesday (16 September), a revised traffic system will operate on Boundary Street to help manage the additional traffic caused by the Great Howard Street closure.

Ahead of the match, Boundary Street will operate as a managed one-way route towards the stadium, helping prioritise supporters travelling to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Shuttle buses will also be given priority through Boundary Street and the railway arch corridor to help keep services moving as reliably as possible despite the diversion.

After the match, the traffic management arrangements will be adjusted to help supporters and vehicles leave the stadium area safely and efficiently.

Traffic management teams will be positioned along the route, with police support available where required.

Other routes, including Leeds Street, Vauxhall Road, Scotland Road and Regent Road, are also expected to be busier than usual as traffic is diverted away from the closure.

Plan Ahead

Supporters are strongly advised to:

  • Allow additional time for their journey to Hill Dickinson Stadium.
  • Follow temporary road signage and instructions from matchday traffic management teams.
  • Use public transport where possible.
  • Check Club channels for any further updates before travelling.

Everton continues to work closely with Liverpool City Council, transport partners, traffic management teams and Merseyside Police to minimise disruption and ensure supporters can travel to and from the stadium as safely and efficiently as possible.

The arrangements will be reviewed following Wednesday’s fixture, with a further update provided ahead of Everton v Ipswich Town on Saturday, if required
