David Moyes will equal Harry Catterick's record of most games managing Everton when he takes charge of the Blues' clash with Coventry City at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Friday night.

To mark the occasion, the Official Matchday Programme will be centred around Moyes – including a special cover and an in-depth interview, where he reflects on his time with the Toffees and plots his future hopes.

“Yes I am proud,” he explains in his exclusive interview with the Official Matchday Programme. “The thought of being the Everton manager who has managed the most games is something I’m very proud of.

“I’m sure Harry Catterick, Howard Kendall and Joe Royle were also incredibly proud [to do this job]. The Club gets you, and if you get the Club – then it’s so big."

Discussing if anything took him by surprise when he first joined Everton as manager in March 2002, he says: "Nothing really took me by surprise.I was well versed in football, in watching football so I knew exactly what I was coming to.

“But probably the big thing which struck me was when I was driving in, and I’ve told this story before, but it’s absolutely true.

“I was coming in on a nice Spring evening. I can remember it was quite bright and looking out the windows all I could see was Everton strips everywhere.

“That was my over-riding memory. I was relatively young and inexperienced in some ways, but I’d been around the leagues and I just remember thinking, ‘My goodness, everybody in the streets in Liverpool are Everton supporters.’

“That was where I came up with ‘the People’s Club’ line. I think in a way that might have helped me be accepted.

“A lot of people said, ‘Ah, you must have thought that up beforehand’ but I didn’t. It was genuinely just driving in when I thought it."

With Moyes poised to set a new Club-record for most games managed when Everton travel to Brentford after the international break, he continues: “Everton has been huge for me and my family. My son David has gone everywhere and my father has lived it with us as well, watching it all.

“That’s so important. What is also so important is that I’ll always try to do the right thing for Everton Football Club.”
