David Moyes has revealed Everton captain Seamus Coleman is unavailable for Tuesday’s home fixture against Burnley – but says he expects the defender “won’t be out for too long".
Looking to build on a thrilling 3-2 victory at Newcastle United on Saturday, the Toffees welcome Scott Parker’s Clarets in a 7.30pm (GMT) kick-off at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton got through that impressive display at St James’ Park without any knocks and niggles, say Moyes, who spoke to the media in his press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game.
Jack Grealish (foot) and Charly Alcaraz remain absent from the Everton squad, with Alcaraz expected to be out until late March.
“We’ve got a couple of things I wouldn’t reveal, at the moment,” explained Moyes. “But obviously, Charly Alcaraz is out. Charly’s not back on the grass.
“Seamus Coleman picked up a little bit of a knock – but not serious – on Friday, so he missed out at the weekend.
“He won’t be available for this game, but we’re hoping he won’t be too long.”
Saturday’s victory over Newcastle was Everton’s seventh so far in the Premier League this season, with no side having picked up more wins on the road than the Toffees since Moyes’ first away match back in charge of the Club.
Aiming to replicate those strong away displays at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Moyes continued: “We don’t intentionally go away from home to try to play any different to we do at home. We want to defend really well, but we also want to attack really well.
“It’s probably more we’ve defended really well away from home. I think at home, we’re a little bit more open.
“We’re trying to find ways of winning games, and in some ways, that’s cost us a little bit.”
