David Moyes felt Everton should have bagged a third Premier League away win on the trot – but praised his players' attitude for extending their unbeaten run to seven matches after a 1-1 draw at Brentford.

The Blues created numerous chances in west London on Wednesday night, Beto being denied by Mark Flekken twice in the first half when clean through on goal.

That was even tougher to take as Yoane Wissa bundled the hosts in front seconds before the interval after Everton had failed to deal with a long throw into the area.

The Toffees were the better side after the break, though, and got their reward with 13 minutes remaining as Jake O'Brien headed home for his first goal in royal blue.

There was still chances to win the contest, the impressive Charly Alcaraz and Beto threatening. But despite being able to match encouraging wins on the road at in-form Brighton and Crystal Palace, Moyes was pleased with the character shown by his squad, and to keep up the feelgood factor for Evertonians, with the Blues now on their longest unbeaten league run since late 2017.

Moyes said: "I think we deserved more in the end, I really do. I think our point was probably the least we deserved.

"We lost a terrible scrappy goal right on half-time from a long throw which, everybody who comes here is well aware of what's going to happen, and we didn't deal with it well. But look, I thought we were unlucky. Beto had been through one v one which he’s recently done very, very well on. Then he had the second one as well. If we hadn’t got a draw there would have been something wrong.

"[The unbeaten run] is good because when you come in as manager you want to get on a run of games we needed to make sure we’re going to stay in the Premier League. I think tonight’s another point towards it.

"On the road we've just won at Brighton, we've won at Crystal Palace. In truth, we should have probably won here tonight as well. So it says a lot for the players, what they're doing. Big Jake gets his first goal tonight which was great for us as well. So there’s lots of good things from the team.

"I thought they played well, really well in the second half. You mustn't forget that we're still without probably the best part of eight or nine of our senior players."

On O'Brien and Alcaraz, Moyes added: "Jake's really a centre-back who we've got him playing a bit as a hybrid right-back. Because he's quick, he helps us with a lot of the quick players. His size is also always a big help as well. It came to help us tonight when he scored with a really good header at the back post, so we're pleased with how he's doing and we hope he continues.

"I thought Charlie played really well tonight. He just ran out of a bit of juice which, probably if we had another midfield player, we may have changed it at some point with another number 10 and that's why we need them, we need them to help us get through. But Doucs [Abdoulaye Doucoure] played very well at the weekend as well against Manchester United.

"Their goalkeeper was probably man of the match with the saves he made tonight. So no criticism of our players except that they were disappointed with the goal we lost. But I thought they'd done a lot of good things and we send the supporters back happy because there was a big support here for us tonight and I think the supporters are just beginning to get a bit of belief as well that the team's playing much, much better.

"They are. They're all playing much better and I hope that continues."
