Charly Alcaraz has been enjoying a blossoming friendship with Spanish-speaking Jack Harrison since his move to Everton earlier this month – and his new teammate helped out as a translator during a post-match interview with evertontv!
Argentine Alcaraz – who signed for the Blues on an initial loan deal from Brazilian champions Flamengo – marked his full Blues debut with a goal and assist to help David Moyes' side to a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Celebrating the win – which extends the Toffees' unbeaten run to five games in the Premier League – after the final whistle, Alcaraz was serenaded with a new chant from the 2,687 travelling Evertonians in south London.
"The fans are crazy but in a good way!" Alcaraz told evertontv, via Harrison. "I'm very grateful for them coming down to support the team and very proud to hear them call my name. I feel very grateful for the support I have had.
"I'm very happy for my first goal for Everton. I've joined a great group. I'm very grateful to Jack, who always helps me with my English, and also to all my teammates who always try to help me with English. It's a very nice group to be part of and I'm very happy.
"Now I will continue to work hard in training because I want to keep getting better and keep helping my team."
Discussing the impact of Alcaraz since his arrival at the Club, Harrison said: "He's been excellent. He's settled really well into the dressing room. He's speaking what he can with everyone and getting involved - laughing, joking. It's always important when you have a player like him coming in [to settle as quickly as possible] – it's not always easy, but he's settled really well and he's showing exactly what he can do on the pitch, too."
Harrison – on his first start for exactly a month – completed more crosses (seven) and dribbles (four) than any other player on the pitch at Selhurst Park, his centre into the area proving crucial for Alcaraz's late winner.
"I think we definitely would have liked to play better but in scrappy games like that it's always good to come out with a win and that was the most important thing for us," the 28-year-old winger continued. "It's always good to be in the starting line-up. I want to play as much as possible and contribute as much as I can. So it was definitely a good thing for me.
"I think I'd like to carry on pushing on now and progress more in my play, but it's a good step in the right direction.
"The atmosphere here is very positive, as you can imagine. But we also know it's important to keep our heads on and know that we're not done yet. We need to keep going game by game and keep improving where we can. Games like tonight showed we still need to improve but it's great to get the wins and it creates a really good atmosphere in the training ground and around the dressing room.
"It's definitely nice to have that feeling back."
