Tarkowski Sets Everton Demand In Carabao Cup Preview

James Tarkowski believes it’s down to Everton’s players to “work their way out” of their current form – and says the Blues are remaining positive despite defeat at the weekend.

Everton fell to a 2-0 loss at high-flying Arsenal on Saturday, slipping to 11^th place in the Premier League table after promising start to the campaign.

Up next, Newcastle United visit Hill Dickinson Stadium on Thursday (7.45pm GMT) – and it’s a fixture the squad are excited for, says Tarkowski.

“We’ve got to demand [we don’t feel sorry for ourselves],” remarked the Toffees captain after Saturday’s result.

“The squad is small, so it’s only us who can go out on that pitch and play. It’s good for the lads because you know you’re going to get plenty of minutes at the moment.

“We need to start picking up results.

“Even though we won against Ipswich, it feels, not like a slump, but it feels like we need to work our way out of this.

“It’s a big game on Thursday in the cup that we’re looking forward to.”

An in-depth Q&A with Blues skipper Tarkowski headlines the matchday programme for Thursday’s visit of Newcastle United.

The centre-back reflects on the season so far, while breaking down the importance of defending as a “unit” and why the Toffees are so keen for a strong Carabao Cup run.
