Carlo Ancelotti features in Wednesday’s edition of the Liverpool Echo, with the Everton boss praising Mason Holgate’s development as a leader.

The local read carries quotes from the Italian after he was asked if Holgate could be a potential Blues captain of the future.

“I think the most important part is he is able to show leadership,” Ancelotti said.

"It doesn't matter if he has the armband or not. I would like to have a lot of captains on the pitch, that means the team is really strong mentally.”

Spanish newspaper Sport, meanwhile, suggests Everton are interested in signing Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.

The publication reports Everton and Barcelona are in negotiations regarding the financial details of the deal.

The Brazilian playmaker has spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Bayern Munich, where he has made 32 appearances and scored nine goals.

The Daily Express, meanwhile, claims Everton have “moved on with their targets” and are no longer in the race to sign Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser.

Fraser’s contract with the south coast club expires at the end of June.

Morgan Schneiderlin’s Everton exit also features across the local and national newspapers after the Frenchman completed a move to Ligue 1 side Nice on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old made 88 appearances for Everton, having joined the Toffees from Manchester United in 2017.
